NAIROBI, Kenya- Musician Stevo Simple Boy has explained why he chose not to accept an alleged Sh1 million commercial deal, saying the proposed campaign conflicted with his commitment to authenticity.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, the rapper addressed widespread online discussion surrounding the reported offer, which allegedly involved content creators Kijana Lombolombo and Kijana Maridadi. Stevo said he wanted to clarify why he walked away despite the financial incentive.
“I’ve been hearing that there has been a lot of talk involving Kijana Lombolombo, Stevo Simple Boy and Kijana Maridadi about a one-million deal,” he said.
Stevo acknowledged that the reported offer was attractive but claimed it came with a condition he was unwilling to accept. According to the musician, the campaign allegedly required him to portray a romantic reunion that was not genuine.
“It was a good offer. I respect every opportunity that comes my way, but that deal required us to act as though we had gotten back together in a romantic relationship.”

He said accepting such an arrangement would have compromised the values he wants his public image to reflect.
“That wasn’t right for me because I don’t believe in building my brand by showing people something that isn’t true.”
Stevo said authenticity remains central to his career and personal brand. He noted that while opportunities to earn substantial income are important, he believes honesty is more valuable than creating a false narrative for publicity or commercial gain.
The musician has built a loyal following through his distinctive personality, simple messaging and relatable approach to music. His latest remarks suggest he intends to continue cultivating that image by remaining transparent with his audience.
Although he admitted the reported deal would have been financially rewarding, Stevo said he was prepared to forgo the money rather than participate in a campaign that did not reflect reality.
“Inauma, lakini itabidi tuzoee.”

He ended the video with one of his trademark catchphrases, joking:
“Kumbavu zetuu… hehehehe.”
His comments have since generated discussion on social media, with many fans praising his decision to prioritise authenticity over financial gain.
In contrast, others questioned whether turning down such an opportunity was the right business decision.
The existence and terms of the alleged commercial agreement have not been independently verified, and no company or brand has publicly confirmed making the reported Sh1 million offer.
Stevo’s remarks therefore represent his account of the events, with no official statement from any other party involved at the time of publication.
