Kenyan basketball sensation Madina Okot has reached another major milestone in her growing career after recording her first official WNBA regular-season double-double during Atlanta Dream’s dramatic one-point defeat to the Las Vegas Aces.
The 6-foot-6 rookie center produced a standout performance on May 17, 2026, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes off the bench as Atlanta narrowly lost 85-84 before a sold-out crowd of 17,044 fans at State Farm Arena.
While the result ultimately favored Las Vegas, the night belonged in many ways to Okot, whose impact on both ends of the floor continued to underline why she has quickly become one of the most talked-about rookie talents in the league.
The achievement marks Okot’s first official regular-season double-double in the WNBA and comes only three games into her professional career.
Interestingly, the Kenyan star had already offered a glimpse of what was to come during the preseason, when she posted an identical stat line of 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Chicago Sky in her first exhibition appearance.
This time, however, the performance came on the official stage and under immense pressure against one of the league’s most established sides.
Atlanta entered the matchup looking to secure an important home victory but found themselves under serious pressure for much of the contest.
The Dream trailed by as many as 19 points during the third quarter after a three-point play from Chennedy Carter pushed the score to 73-54 in favor of Las Vegas.
With the game appearing to slip away, Atlanta mounted an impressive response in the fourth quarter.
The Dream went on a remarkable 16-0 run that suddenly shifted the momentum and energized the home crowd. During that crucial period, Okot emerged as one of Atlanta’s driving forces.
With just 36.5 seconds remaining on the clock, Jordin Canada stole possession from A’ja Wilson before racing down court for a layup that handed Atlanta an 84-83 lead.
The Dream appeared to be on the verge of completing one of the most memorable comebacks of the young season.
But Las Vegas had one final answer. Veteran guard Chelsea Gray delivered in the closing moments, knocking down a clutch fadeaway jumper with just 3.6 seconds left to secure an 85-84 victory for the Aces and silence the Atlanta crowd.
Despite the heartbreak, Okot’s performance offered a major positive for Atlanta and for Kenyan basketball fans following her journey.
The rookie has enjoyed a steady rise in her first few appearances in the league.
Her official WNBA debut came on May 10 against the Minnesota Lynx, where she recorded eight points and four rebounds in only 10 minutes. She then followed that with a road appearance against the Dallas Wings before delivering her breakthrough performance against Las Vegas.
