NAIROBI, Kenya – Manchester United have confirmed that Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract, ending uncertainty over his future.
The 33-year-old defender had been in the final months of his previous deal and looked set to leave on a free transfer this summer.
However, after an impressive resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, the England international has now secured fresh terms running until June 2027. The club also holds an option to extend the agreement by an additional year.
Maguire explained: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes me and my family proud every single day.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together,” he said.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
A cornerstone of the side since Carrick’s arrival in January, his impressive displays have helped the Red Devils climb to third in the Premier League table.
Maguire has also earned a recall to the England squad and is firmly in the frame to feature at the World Cup.
The centre-back joined United from Leicester for a record-breaking £80million in 2019.
Maguire was appointed club captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer within a year of his arrival, though he was subsequently replaced by Bruno Fernandes during Erik ten Hag’s tenure in 2023.
Maguire remains one of the most commanding figures in United’s squad and has guided them to two recent trophy victories, the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
Earlier this season, Carrick described the 33-year-old and his wealth of experience as ‘invaluable’.
Maguire is in Dublin with the United squad for a training camp during the break.
He will miss Monday’s home game against Leeds due to suspension after his red card against Bournemouth on March 20.
