SAINT MARY’S STADIUM, England — Kenyan football icon Victor Wanyama was back on the pitch for Southampton Legends as they took part in a star‑studded friendly against Manchester United Legends at Southampton FC’s St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

The eight‑goal thriller ended in a 5–3 victory for Manchester United Legends in a match celebrating the 50th anniversary of Southampton’s famous 1976 FA Cup triumph.

Wanyama, who played the full 90 minutes for the Saints’ side, was part of a nostalgic squad featuring club greats such as Rickie Lambert and former midfield stalwarts of the south coast club.

The encounter brought together former stars from both clubs in front of a lively crowd, offering a blend of entertainment and remembrance of iconic moments in football history.

Southampton struck first through Lee Barnard, giving the home legends an early lead, but Manchester United’s men responded with intensity, with goals from Phil Bardsley, Fraizer Campbell and Danny Webber helping the visitors take the win.

The fixture was filled with attacking play and plenty of goals, much to the delight of supporters.

For Wanyama, it was an emotional return to St Mary’s Stadium – the ground where he made his mark as the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League between 2013 and 2016, before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur.

His participation added a special resonance for fans, linking his Premier League legacy with the club’s celebrated past.

The match not only honoured Southampton’s historic victory over Manchester United in the 1976 FA Cup Final but also provided a chance for fans to see celebrated former players in action once more, blending competitive spirit with celebration and nostalgia at a memorable legends event.
