NAIROBI, Kenya – Former Chief Justice and Presidential Aspirant David Maraga is set to begin a three-week tour of the United States as he steps up his campaign for the 2027 presidential election.
Maraga, who is the presidential flag bearer of the United Green Movement (UGM), said his US tour will run from September 17 to October 5, 2026.
The former Chief Justice said he will visit several states to meet Kenyans in the diaspora, engage supporters and share his political agenda.
Maraga lists nine US destinations
In a communiqué, Maraga said his itinerary will take him to Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Georgia, Houston and Dallas.
“I am excited to begin my US tour from 17th September to 5th October 2026,” Maraga said.
The tour will provide the presidential hopeful with an opportunity to engage Kenyans living in the United States as he seeks to build support ahead of the 2027 election.
Maraga targets diaspora vote
Maraga also highlighted the role of the Kenyan diaspora in the country’s economic and political future.
He said Kenyans living abroad should be regarded as partners in national development rather than primarily as a source of remittances.
“Our Constitution recognizes the Diaspora as full partners in Kenya’s future, not just a source of remittances,” he said.
The former Chief Justice is expected to use the tour to outline his agenda to diaspora voters and discuss their role in Kenya’s development and democratic process.
Set to engage leaders during UN General Assembly
Maraga’s itinerary includes New York, where he plans to engage international leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The planned engagements come as the former Chief Justice seeks to position his presidential campaign around broader national and international issues.
No further details of the international leaders he intends to meet were provided in the communiqué.
US tour follows 43-county Ukatiba Caravan
The US tour follows Maraga’s Ukatiba Caravan, a nationwide mobilisation campaign that took him across 43 counties between February and April 2026.
During the caravan, Maraga engaged Kenyans and supporters as he promoted his political agenda and sought to build a nationwide base.
The former Chief Justice has since shifted his campaign beyond Kenya as he seeks to consolidate support among the diaspora ahead of the 2027 polls.
Maraga declares 2027 presidential bid
Maraga formally announced his intention to run for president earlier this year after consultations with Kenyans and members of the Gen Z generation.
He said those engagements persuaded him to accept the presidential bid.
His candidacy adds another name to the growing field of politicians seeking to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Maraga served as Kenya’s Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court before leaving office in 2021.
His campaign is now entering a new phase, with the US tour expected to give him direct access to Kenyan diaspora communities in key states as he seeks to expand his support base.
