NAIROBI, Kenya- Presidential aspirant and former Chief Justice David Maraga has arrived in the United States for a three-week tour aimed at engaging Kenyans living in the diaspora.
Maraga announced his arrival at Dulles International Airport, which serves the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, saying the visit would allow him to listen to Kenyans and discuss the country’s future.
“I look forward to engaging with and listening to the views of Kenyans across different parts of the US over the coming days as we chart the way forward for our nation,” Maraga said.
“Let us meet, share ideas, and build together.”
His campaign secretariat earlier said the tour would begin on September 17 and run for three weeks.
Maraga is expected to meet Kenyans in several American cities as he builds support for his 2027 presidential bid.
Maraga’s arrival means two Kenyan presidential aspirants are currently undertaking political engagements in the United States.
DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua is also in the US on an extended tour that began in late August.
He has held meetings with Kenyans in different states, including engagements in Spokane, Washington State.
Gachagua has used the tour to outline his political position ahead of the 2027 General Election and consult Kenyans living abroad.
He is accompanied by his spouse, Reverend Dorcas Rigathi, and members of his political team.
The DCP leader’s itinerary included engagements in Washington State between September 4 and 10.
His tour was expected to run for about 50 days and cover several parts of the US.
Both Maraga and Gachagua have declared an interest in succeeding President William Ruto in the August 2027 election.
Maraga is seeking the presidency through the United Green Movement Party, while Gachagua leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party.
The two have joined a growing field of opposition figures seeking to challenge President Ruto, who is expected to pursue a second term.
Their overlapping visits highlight the attention presidential aspirants are giving to Kenyans abroad ahead of the election.
The diaspora is a major source of remittances and an increasingly visible constituency in Kenya’s political debate.
