NAIROBI, Kenya- The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) held a joint National Executive Committee and Central Committee meeting in Nairobi on Tuesday to discuss its priorities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The session brought together senior party officials, including Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala and Secretary-General designate John Methu, who is also the Nyandarua senator.
In a statement on the meeting, DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua said the party was working to strengthen its structures and build an organisation capable of lasting beyond individual election cycles.
“We continue to build a strong party that will stand the test of time and build a better Kenya now and in future,” he said.
Senior officials discuss election priorities
Gachagua described the session as a strategic meeting focused on the party’s preparations for next year’s election.
Also present were National Elections Board Chairperson Wanjiru Kago and National Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga, alongside other officials.
The party did not announce specific resolutions in the statement. It also did not provide details of any decisions on nominations, candidate selection or campaign arrangements.
Gachagua said the programme was held in collaboration with the Centre for Multiparty Democracy Kenya (CMD-Kenya), although he did not elaborate on the organisation’s role in the discussions.
Gachagua stresses equal participation
The DCP leader said the party’s organisational work would be guided by a commitment to equal treatment and participation.
“Our commitment and resolve to bring back better our country is a top priority,” he said.
“In this journey, every Kenyan matters, every Kenyan is equal in their country and must be treated as such.”
The meeting placed the party’s executive leadership, elections board and youth leadership in the same forum as DCP develops its agenda for the 2027 contest.
