KISUMU, Kenya – The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged a Kisumu man with preparing to commit a felony, possessing offensive weapons and resisting arrest.
Oliver Ochieng Jaoko appeared before Kisumu Senior Resident Magistrate Ollando Cecil Andrew, where he pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
The charges were brought under Section 308(1) and Section 89(1) of the Penal Code and Section 103(a) of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
Man allegedly found with weapons
The court heard that on August 15, 2026, at about 9.30pm, Jaoko was allegedly found in the company of other people at a petrol station along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway in Kisumu East Sub-County.
Prosecutors said Jaoko was in a Toyota Noah and was allegedly found with several items classified as offensive weapons.
The items listed in court included a knife, wheel spanner, pliers, sword, sharpening file and rope.
The prosecution’s allegations have not been tested through a full trial, and Jaoko denied the charges.
Accused also charged with resisting arrest
Jaoko faces a separate charge of resisting arrest.
The prosecution alleges that he resisted arrest by police officers who were carrying out their lawful duties at the same location and on the same date.
The DPP charged him under Section 103(a) of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
Part of wider August crackdown
Jaoko was among 18 other individuals separately charged by the DPP in August 2026 with offences relating to preparation to commit a felony and possession of offensive weapons.
The latest case adds to a series of prosecutions involving people allegedly found with weapons in circumstances that police considered suspicious.
Court grants Sh100,000 bond
Following the plea-taking, Magistrate Ollando granted Jaoko bond of Sh100,000 or cash bail of Sh30,000.
The case will be mentioned on October 13, 2026.
