KAJIADO, Kenya – A Kajiado man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of defiling his 15-year-old stepdaughter.
George Wanyonyi was sentenced on September 22, 2026, following a full trial at the Kajiado Law Courts.
He was convicted of defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act.
Court hears of prolonged abuse
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that the girl had been subjected to repeated sexual abuse over a prolonged period.
The court found the victim’s testimony credible, consistent and compelling despite the fear and trauma associated with recounting her experiences.
The prosecution was led by Beatrice Kimunya, who urged the court to impose a sentence above the statutory minimum of 20 years.
DPP seeks tougher sentence
In her sentencing submissions, Kimunya highlighted the sustained nature of the abuse, the victim’s vulnerability and the breach of trust involved in the offence.
The prosecution argued that the circumstances warranted a deterrent sentence that would underscore the need to protect children from sexual abuse.
After considering the evidence and submissions, Hon. L. W. Muchiri sentenced Wanyonyi to 30 years’ imprisonment.
The sentence is 10 years above the statutory minimum provided for the offence.
ODPP prioritises child protection cases
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said it continues to prioritise the prosecution of sexual and gender-based violence cases, particularly those involving children.
The ODPP said the prosecutions form part of its efforts to secure justice for survivors and strengthen protection for vulnerable victims.
