NAIROBI, Kenya – The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against five suspects accused of killing lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu in Nairobi.
The suspects are politician Rose Mulwa, her children Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, and police constables Julius Cheruiyot and Kennedy Borboroi.
Cheruiyot and Borboroi appeared before High Court Judge Diana Kavedza at the Kibera Law Courts on Wednesday but did not take a plea.
Justice Kavedza directed that the two police officers undergo mental assessments at Mbagathi Hospital before they can formally respond to the charges.
The court also directed that Mbithe and the other suspects who are in custody be produced for the proceedings.
Five Suspects To Take Plea
The five suspects are scheduled to take plea on October 27 after the court receives the mental assessment report for the two police officers.
The murder charges follow investigations into the death of Mbobu, who was allegedly attacked and killed in Nairobi on September 9, 2026.
The approval by the DPP clears the way for the prosecution of the five suspects before the High Court.
Lawyer’s Death Under Investigation
Mbobu was a renowned lawyer, university lecturer and author.
His death triggered investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and his killing.
With the DPP having approved the charges, the matter will now proceed through the court process, where the prosecution will present its case against the suspects.
The suspects remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
The five are expected to formally respond to the murder charges when they appear for plea-taking on October 27.
