NAIROBI, Kenya- DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed former Nakuru Woman Representative candidate Agnes Njambi Githinji and former Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), following their exit from Jubilee Party.
Gachagua announced the two political realignments on Tuesday after receiving them at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.
He said Njambi, who contested the Nakuru County Woman Representative seat on a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election, has now set her sights on the Gilgil parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 polls.
Njambi garnered 194,610 votes in the 2022 contest, finishing second behind United Democratic Alliance candidate Liza Chelule.
“At the request of her supporters, she is now seeking to represent Gilgil Constituency in Parliament on a DCP ticket,” Gachagua said.
The DCP leader described Njambi as a politician with an extensive grassroots network and urged her to use that support to strengthen the party’s presence in Gilgil and Nakuru County.
He said she should begin mobilisation early as DCP prepares for its party nominations scheduled for March next year.
“I have encouraged her to build on that support and prepare for the party nominations in March next year,” Gachagua said.
Shift from county race to constituency contest
Njambi’s entry into the Gilgil parliamentary race marks a shift from her previous countywide bid for the Woman Representative seat to a constituency-level contest.
Her 2022 performance made her one of Jubilee’s strongest candidates in Nakuru County, where she secured nearly 30 per cent of the votes cast in the Woman Representative race.
Her move to DCP comes as political parties intensify recruitment and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua said DCP would offer a fair nomination process to all aspirants seeking party tickets.
Kimemia has also joined DCP from Jubilee Party.
Kimemia was at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence as the party leader welcomed the new entrants, adding to the number of experienced politicians aligning themselves with DCP ahead of the next election.
The former governor has remained a prominent figure in Mt Kenya politics and was previously involved in engagements between Jubilee leaders and Gachagua as the two sides explored areas of political cooperation.
Gachagua said DCP was positioning itself as a vehicle for leaders and supporters seeking political change ahead of 2027.
“DCP is the party of the moment — and the future is green,” he said.
The latest defections underline the shifting political alliances in the Mt Kenya region, where Jubilee, DCP, UDA and other parties are competing to build influence ahead of party primaries and the 2027 presidential election.
