DCI Arrests MP John Kaguchia After Hours at Royal Media Offices

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday after hours of dramatic events surrounding the Royal Media Services (RMS) headquarters in Nairobi.

The legislator had earlier revealed that heavily armed and masked security officers had surrounded the media station shortly after he appeared on a live television programme, alleging they intended to arrest him.

According to Kaguchia, more than 40 armed men, accompanied by several Subaru vehicles and double-cab pickups, were deployed around the premises.

The MP said he remained inside the media house for several hours as his legal team sought to establish the reasons behind the operation.

His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, also maintained that DCI officers were waiting outside the building to apprehend the legislator.

Kaguchia was arrested after leaving the Royal Media Services compound.

The MP is accused of making inciteful remarks during an over-the-weekend rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.

Before his arrest, Kaguchia described the security operation as an attempt to intimidate him because of his political views.
