KISUMU, Kenya — Police in Kisumu have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and recovered a large haul of suspected cannabis sativa following an interception along the Kisumu–Nairobi Highway.
According to the National Police Service, officers from Ahero Police Station were conducting routine road checks earlier today when they flagged down a vehicle at a roadblock in Ahero. The driver failed to stop, prompting a police chase.
The vehicle was later intercepted in the Ngere area, where officers carried out a thorough search. Police recovered three sacks weighing about 90 kilograms each, concealed inside the vehicle — two hidden behind the driver’s seat and another placed on top of the fuel tank.

All the sacks were found to contain suspected cannabis. The driver and a second occupant were arrested and taken into custody, pending arraignment in court.
Police said the recovered exhibits have been secured at the station, while the vehicle involved has been detained as investigations continue.
In a statement, the National Police Service said the interception highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and curb the circulation of narcotics in the country.
The police have also urged members of the public to support the fight against drugs by reporting suspicious activities through the service’s toll-free lines.
