NAIROBI, Kenya- A Member of the County Assembly representing Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in Kitui County has been arrested in Nairobi over three alleged mobile phone thefts reported in the city’s Central Business District.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said detectives from Kamukunji Police Station arrested Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka on Mfangano Street after acting on intelligence.
According to the DCI, the incidents were reported in August and September 2026. Detectives said they reviewed CCTV footage and identified Musyoka in connection with the reported thefts.
The arrest also brought to light an outstanding warrant in a separate case. The DCI said Musyoka is wanted in Criminal Case No. 112/303/2024 after failing to attend court. He had been released on bond by Makadara Law Courts, where he had been charged with stealing.
The MCA was in police custody as detectives processed him ahead of his arraignment. The DCI did not provide further details about the three reported thefts, including the number or value of phones allegedly stolen.
The allegations have not been tested in court. Musyoka is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The arrest comes as police continue to investigate and prosecute reported thefts in Nairobi’s CBD, where phones and other personal belongings can be targeted in crowded streets and public transport areas.
In a separate operation earlier this month, detectives arrested three suspects in Nairobi and recovered 32 phones believed to be stolen, according to the DCI. The investigation followed a theft reported in Murang’a in 2025. citizen.digital
The DCI said it would continue pursuing leads and bringing suspects before the courts, regardless of their position or status. The agency did not say when Musyoka would appear in court.
