NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released results for six teacher education assessment and examination programmes, but some colleges will have to clear outstanding fees before their candidates can access their results.
In a notice issued on Thursday, October 15, KNEC said the results had been dispatched to colleges and advised candidates to collect them from their respective institutions.
“The candidates who sat these assessments and examinations are advised to obtain the results from their colleges,” the council stated.
However, KNEC disclosed that results for some institutions had been withheld because of outstanding balances for assessment and examination fees.
The council said the affected colleges had already been notified and asked to settle their arrears before the results could be released.
“Results for colleges with outstanding assessment and examination fee balances have been withheld pending settlement of the arrears. The affected colleges have been notified and advised to clear the balances to facilitate the release of their results,” KNEC said.
Six Teacher Education Programmes Covered
The results cover three diploma programmes for the 2023 cohort and three other teacher education qualifications for the 2025 cohort.
The programmes included in the release are:
- Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
- Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE)
- Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)
- Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE)
- Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE) Parts I and II
- Teacher Certificate in Adult Education (TCAE)
Candidates have been advised to contact their respective colleges to obtain their results.
Those whose institutions have outstanding assessment and examination fees may need to wait until the balances are settled and KNEC authorises the release of the withheld results.
Colleges Told To Clear Examination Fee Arrears
KNEC said the withholding of results was linked to unpaid assessment and examination fees owed by the affected institutions.
The council did not identify the colleges with outstanding balances in the notice provided.
The directive means candidates from affected institutions may experience delays in accessing their results while their colleges resolve the payment issues.
KNEC has advised the institutions to clear the arrears to facilitate the release of the outstanding results.
TSC Proposes Changes To Teacher Training Entry Grades
The announcement comes as the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) pursues proposed changes to entry requirements for teacher training programmes.
Among the proposals announced in May is a reduction in the minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade for diploma teacher training courses from C+ to C plain.
The proposed reforms also include lowering entry requirements to a C- for persons with disabilities in certain courses and recognising single teaching subjects, including new learning areas under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The proposals are part of wider efforts to adjust teacher training requirements to evolving education needs.
The proposed entry-grade changes remain separate from KNEC’s results announcement, which concerns the release of examination results and the settlement of outstanding fees by affected colleges.
