“We Expect Total Breakup in Linda Mwananchi”: Nyaribari Masaba MP

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku has predicted divisions within the Linda Mwananchi movement, arguing that differences among the political parties represented in the coalition could eventually create cracks.

Manduku said the movement could struggle to maintain unity because its members come from different political parties with their own structures, interests and organisational systems.

Manduku Warns of Coalition Divisions

Speaking on Thursday, September 17, 2026, Manduku said he expected the movement to experience divisions along existing party lines.

“We expect total breakup in Linda Mwananchi. The cracks will emerge along those registered party lines.”

The MP argued that political movements bringing together leaders from different parties could face challenges when individual politicians have to balance coalition activities with the structures and interests of their respective parties.

Sifuna, Babu Owino Cited

Manduku also referred to former ODM officials Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, arguing that their political prospects were closely linked to the party structures they previously operated within.

“Sifuna and Babu Owino were the future of ODM only if they remained in ODM,” he said.

Sifuna and Babu have since pursued political activities outside the ODM structures, a development Manduku cited as an example of the challenges politicians can face after leaving established parties.

Manduku Emphasises Party Machinery

The Nyaribari Masaba MP said established political parties provide organisational structures that are important during election campaigns.

He argued that politicians who leave parties can find it difficult to replicate the same level of grassroots organisation, mobilisation and campaign infrastructure independently.

“The mistake they made was to bolt out of our party but now they’ve understood you cannot run a political campaign without a party machinery,” Manduku said.

His remarks highlight the continuing importance of party structures as political formations position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Linda Mwananchi Faces Political Test

Manduku’s comments come as Linda Mwananchi brings together politicians and supporters from different political backgrounds.

The movement’s ability to maintain a common political agenda while accommodating different party affiliations could become an important issue as preparations for the 2027 election intensify.

However, Manduku did not cite a specific internal dispute or provide evidence that the movement is already breaking apart.
