NAIROBI, Kenya — Linda Mwananchi activist Pauline Njoroge has hit back at claims that she is carrying money from retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to finance the political movement.
In a post on X, Njoroge questioned why authorities had not intercepted her if the allegations that she was transporting Uhuru’s money were genuine.
“Now that they have the state machinery, and all the instruments of power, why haven’t they waylaid me and taken the money, so that they cripple Linda Mwananchi financially if they actually believe that it’s Uhuru’s money that’s propelling the movement?” she said.
Njoroge was responding to remarks she said she heard at President William Ruto’s rally the previous day, where she alleged that government-aligned politicians had accused her of carrying money belonging to the former president.
She did not identify the individuals she was referring to in the post.
Njoroge Dismisses Funding Allegations
Njoroge’s remarks amount to a denial of claims that she acts as a conduit for funds from Uhuru to Linda Mwananchi.
In July, she had similarly rejected allegations that she was facilitating money from the former president to bankroll the movement, describing the claims as political propaganda.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has also previously denied that Uhuru finances Linda Mwananchi, saying the movement relies on public support.
Linda Mwananchi Uses Public Contributions
Linda Mwananchi has publicly promoted a fundraising model based on small contributions from supporters.
The movement’s official website currently lists a Paybill through which supporters can make contributions.
In July, the movement reported raising hundreds of thousands of shillings through small public donations. Y News reported that organisers said 9,419 people had contributed a combined Sh519,144 during one day’s fundraising exercise.
It was later reported that the movement raised more than Sh3 million in a single day through its public fundraising drive.
Njoroge Joined Linda Mwananchi After Leaving Jubilee
Njoroge became an active figure in Linda Mwananchi after resigning from Jubilee Party in July 2026.
She had served as Jubilee’s Deputy Organising Secretary and a member of its National Executive Committee before announcing her resignation after 14 years in the party.
At the time, she said she had been involved in Linda Mwananchi since February and intended to dedicate herself fully to the movement.
Her departure came amid growing political activity around Linda Mwananchi, which has held rallies in several parts of the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Linda Mwananchi Funding Debate Intensifies
The funding question comes as Linda Mwananchi expands its political activities.
The movement held its first major Nairobi rally on September 13, with Sifuna, Babu Owino, James Orengo, Njoroge and other politicians participating in the procession and rally.
The movement’s financing has increasingly become part of the political debate, with supporters highlighting grassroots contributions while opponents have questioned whether wealthy political figures are backing its activities.
As of Thursday, September 17, Njoroge’s latest post offered a direct challenge to those making the allegations but did not provide independent evidence concerning the source of all funds used by Linda Mwananchi.
