KASIPUL, Kenya – Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was injured Thursday after being attacked by a mob at Agoro Sare Primary School in Kasipul, where he was observing the ongoing by-elections.

Kaluma, who represents the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), said his bodyguard was also assaulted during the incident and lost a firearm in the chaos.

Images obtained by Y News show the MP surrounded by a hostile crowd, with medical personnel rushing to provide first aid as police moved in to contain the situation.

Kaluma sustained injuries to his head but was stabilized at the scene.

Speaking after the attack, Kaluma alleged that the assailants were linked to independent candidate Phillip Aloko, who is vying for the Kasipul parliamentary seat.

“Their aim is to intimidate voters,” Kaluma said. “The way to respond is not by fighting. We will not let them scare people from voting. Our fight is on the ballot, not with violence.”

Kasipul Constituency has 67,513 registered voters, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and polling continues across the region.

Police confirmed that they are investigating the incident, emphasizing the need for a peaceful voting process during the by-elections.
