NAIROBI, Kenya- Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has voiced support for President William Ruto’s re-election, saying he is appointing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula as his “Mutume” in Kenya.
In a post on X on Friday, October 2, Kainerugaba wrote: “Now that I have enough Batume in Uganda, I appoint Rt. Honourable Moses Wetangula as my Mutume in Kenya. He will support my President William Ruto’s re-election. Tunataka Second term.”
Kainerugaba did not explain what role he meant by “Mutume” or indicate that the statement followed a formal appointment.
His post described Wetang’ula as someone who would support Ruto’s bid for a second term.
Wetang’ula has backed Ruto’s 2027 bid
Wetang’ula, who is also Ford Kenya’s party leader, has himself urged Kenyans to support Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
In July, he called on women in Bungoma to help rally support for the President’s re-election, citing what he described as the government’s delivery on key campaign promises.
Kainerugaba is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and heads the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
His post adds a regional dimension to Kenya’s early political debate ahead of the 2027 polls.
