NAIROBI, Kenya – Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited has issued a stern warning to residents using illegal water connections, urging them to regularize their supply before facing penalties.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the company advised customers with unauthorized connections to visit their respective regional offices and legalize their usage before the deadline of Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Those who comply within the stipulated period will have their penalties waived.
“Applicable penalties will be waived for customers who voluntarily regularize their water connections on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2025,” the statement read. “Thereafter, any customer found with an illegal water connection shall be charged and prosecuted, in addition to being compelled to pay any applicable fines and penalties.”
The water company emphasized that addressing illegal connections will help curb the consumption of unbilled water, which strains resources and affects service delivery.
It also urged customers with outstanding bills to settle their payments promptly to avoid service disconnections.
Customers can make payments through various avenues, including USSD code +260#, M-Pesa Paybill 444400, as well as major banks such as NCBA, ABSA, Citi, Cooperative, Equity, Sidian, and Diamond Trust Bank.

Illegal connections, it said, not only undermine efforts to provide reliable water supply but also pose serious risks to public health and water quality.
