Several Killed in Grisly Narok–Mai Mahiu Road Crash

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya-Several people are feared dead following a grisly head-on collision between a truck and a private car at Nairegia along the busy Narok–Mai Mahiu Road.

Preliminary reports indicate the crash involved a truck and a Toyota Voxy travelling in opposite directions when the heavy commercial vehicle reportedly lost control and veered into the path of the oncoming car.

Police say the impact was severe, leaving multiple occupants of the smaller vehicle dead on the spot, while the truck driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The victims, believed to include both men and women, were trapped in the mangled wreckage, with emergency responders working to retrieve the bodies and clear the scene.

Authorities have since moved the deceased to a local mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.

The accident occurred along a stretch of road long considered a black spot, particularly for heavy trucks descending the escarpment towards Mai Mahiu.

Police have in the past cited brake failure, speeding, and dangerous overtaking as leading causes of frequent crashes along the corridor.

Traffic was temporarily disrupted as rescue teams and police officers managed the scene and towed away the wreckage.

Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
