Three Feared Dead as Car Bursts Into Flames Near Raila Odinga Stadium

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Three people are feared dead and others injured after a car reportedly crashed and burst into flames at Kenol Stage along Ngong Road, near Raila Odinga International Stadium, on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026.

The incident drew members of the public to the scene as the vehicle caught fire. However, the reported death toll had not been independently confirmed at the time of publication.

Details surrounding the crash remained unclear, including what caused the vehicle to lose control, how many people were inside and the extent of injuries sustained by survivors.

It was also not immediately clear whether all those affected had been evacuated to hospital or whether emergency responders had completed their operations at the scene.

Authorities were yet to issue a comprehensive account establishing the circumstances of the collision and confirming the number of casualties.

What Happened at Kenol Stage?

Initial reports indicated that the vehicle crashed before bursting into flames near Kenol Stage, a busy section of Ngong Road used by private motorists, public service vehicles and pedestrians.

The incident raised immediate concerns over the safety of those who may have been caught in or near the burning vehicle.

The identities of the people feared dead and those injured had not been released in the information available at the time of publication.

Investigators will need to establish how the collision occurred before determining whether factors such as speeding, mechanical failure, driver error or other circumstances contributed to the incident.

Crash Comes Amid Rising Road Deaths

The reported incident comes as Kenya faces renewed scrutiny over its road safety record following a series of deadly crashes in recent weeks.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) showed that 3,995 people died in road crashes between January 1 and October 4, 2026, representing a 9.2 per cent increase from the 3,657 deaths recorded over the corresponding period in 2025.

The figures also showed that pedestrians accounted for 1,490 deaths, followed by motorcyclists at 1,061 and passengers at 662 during the reporting period.

The rising toll has intensified calls for stronger enforcement of traffic regulations, safer road infrastructure and improved measures to prevent crashes and reduce fatalities.

Further details on the confirmed fatalities, injuries and circumstances of the crash are awaited.
