KAJIADO, Kenya- Nine Members of the Kajiado County Assembly have defected to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), joining the party from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Jubilee.
DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced the defections on Monday, saying the MCAs had joined the party following what he described as instructions from their supporters.
“The journey to 100% DCP in Kajiado is almost complete,” Gachagua said.
He said the MCAs had decided after consulting their constituents.
“I never asked the MCAs to listen to the ground; they are the ground themselves. They have told me that the ground is green,” he said.
The MCAs who joined DCP are:
- Isaac Kiresian — Minority Leader, Kajiado County Assembly, Magadi Ward — formerly ODM
- Joseph Torris — Ewuaso Oonkidongi Ward — formerly ODM
- Edward Lemomo — Kuku Ward — formerly ODM
- Caroline Ndeti — Nominated MCA, Kaputei North Ward — formerly Jubilee
- Titus Matheka — Ongata Rongai Ward — formerly UDA
- John Maina Mutiga — Nkaimurunya Ward — formerly UDA
- Nais Naisiae Karia — Nominated MCA — formerly UDA
- Marush Kisemei — Oloosirkon Sholinko Ward — formerly UDA
- Mbiriri Mwaura — Ngong Ward — formerly UDA
Gachagua also announced the entry of Peter Tirishe, an aspirant for Mosiro Ward, who previously belonged to ODM.
The new DCP members were accompanied by Narok Township Ward MCA Douglas Masikonde, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo and Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki.
Gachagua said the defections reflected growing support for DCP in Kajiado and linked the party’s expansion to the 2027 General Election.
“Our party continues to grow and expand significantly, with just one year to go before 10th August 2027,” he said.
