MALABA, Busia County — ODM leader Oburu Odinga has sent a clear warning to coalition partner UDA, insisting that the party will secure its “fair share” in upcoming government negotiations.
Speaking during the ODM Linda Ground County Tours in Malaba, Oburu emphasized that the party must enter talks from a position of strength.
Oburu reminded party leaders that ODM joined the UDA-led government reluctantly, describing it as a temporary “window” during a period when the government was perceived to be collapsing.
“We did not vote for this government. We are in a broad-based government but we must talk with them from a point of strength,” he said.
He warned that ODM will not accept minimal concessions in negotiations.
“I will ensure that once we go to the negotiations, we shall get what we deserve. We cannot be given peanuts. We must get our fair share. We shall do very tough negotiations,” Odinga said.
The ODM leader also urged grassroots members to prepare for the next elections, emphasizing the importance of voter registration.
“I urge you, as grassroots leaders of ODM ensure that our people register as voters,” he said.
Observers say Odinga’s remarks are a prelude to high-stakes discussions with UDA, as ODM seeks to solidify its influence in the government while safeguarding its electoral mandate ahead of 2025.
