LONDON, United Kingdom- ODM Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has met Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Maurice Makoloo, during his visit to London for a routine medical check-up.
Oginga hosted Makoloo for a courtesy call at his residence on Thursday morning alongside his wife, Judy.
The meeting focused on strengthening ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom and supporting Kenyans living abroad.
Oginga said they also discussed ways of using the investments, knowledge and professional skills of Kenyans in the diaspora to support development at home.
“We had a productive discussion on strengthening ties, supporting our vibrant Kenyan diaspora, and leveraging their investments and skills to drive development back home,” Oginga said.
He described the diaspora as an important pillar of Kenya’s prosperity and thanked Makoloo for the visit.
“A strong diaspora is a vital pillar of our nation’s prosperity,” he said.
Oginga travelled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up after briefly visiting a Nairobi hospital. He has since been seen walking in London and holding meetings during the trip.
Makoloo took over as Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in February 2026, becoming the country’s 16th envoy to London.
He presented his credentials to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on February 19.
As High Commissioner, Makoloo represents Kenya in the United Kingdom and is responsible for advancing diplomatic, trade and investment relations while supporting Kenyans living there.
Oginga said he looked forward to continued collaboration with the envoy, but did not provide details about further engagements planned during his stay.
His trip comes as he leads ODM following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
