‘Forced Rest’: Oburu Oginga’s Office Dismisses Health Rumours as Fake News

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The office of ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has rejected social media reports about his health, describing them as false and saying the Siaya Senator is well and in good spirits.

In a statement dated November 6, the office said Oburu had been preparing his speech for the handover ceremony of the Raila Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi when the reports began circulating.

The statement said he remained involved in political affairs despite following doctors’ instructions to rest and limit strenuous engagements.

“Dr. Oburu Oginga is well, safe, and in good spirits,” the communiqué said, adding that he remained mentally alert and engaged in party and national matters.

Office condemns online reports

The statement accused social media platforms of being used to spread false claims and attack the ODM leader’s character. It singled out social media user Maverick Aoko in connection with the reports.

The office urged the public and media to disregard what it called sensationalist fabrications and rely on official communication. It said it was in contact with party leaders to handle the matter legally and called on those responsible to stop what it described as cyberbullying and the deliberate spread of misinformation.

The communiqué did not give details about Oburu’s medical condition. It said he was following doctors’ advice to rest and reduce heavy physical engagements.

ODM Communications Director Philip Etale said Oburu was well after visiting Nairobi Hospital for a routine check-up.
