NYANDARUA, Kenya- Nyandarua Senator John Methu says he was offered help to form a political party and promised Sh10 million a week after the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) won the Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, October 11, Methu revealed that a government official approached him shortly after the July 2026 poll and urged him to establish a separate political party.
He said the offer included initial funding, weekly payments of Sh10 million, help recruiting aspirants, and campaign materials.
Methu said the plan was presented as a way for him to become an independent opposition leader, with a possible deal with President William Ruto’s camp later in the 2027 election cycle.
Methu said he rejected the proposal and informed DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua. He also said he contacted Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, whom he trusted, and told him about the approach.
According to Methu, Nyoro warned that creating another party would split Mount Kenya’s votes and said he would join DCP.
Methu said he was surprised when Nyoro later took over the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).
The senator questioned Nyoro’s loyalty to the opposition and said he would feature prominently if he were asked to name political “moles.”
These are Methu’s allegations; he did not provide evidence during the interview that Nyoro was involved in the alleged approach.
Nyoro has previously rejected claims that PPK is a government project intended to split the opposition.
He has said the party is meant to expand the opposition and give politicians another platform.
He announced in August that he was leaving the ruling United Democratic Alliance and joining the opposition.
The alleged offer comes as opposition parties prepare for the 2027 General Election, with leaders still seeking to unite behind a single presidential candidate.
Methu said the approach was an attempt to divide the Mount Kenya vote and weaken the opposition’s chances.
