KISUMU, Kenya- One person was killed on Wednesday after violence broke out during the distribution of relief food and bursaries organised by Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello in Kobura, Kisumu County.
The fatal incident occurred after chaos erupted among residents gathered to receive food supplies and bursary allocations, with the situation quickly escalating into violence.
Nyanza Regional Police Commander Isaiah Mose confirmed the death, saying police had launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased.
Officers were deployed to restore order as panic spread among residents attending the exercise.
The relief distribution had been organised by Nyando MP Jared Okello to support vulnerable families and students in the area.
However, the event was cut short after the violence erupted.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm as detectives investigate the incident and establish those responsible.
