Date:

RONGAI, Kenya- A man has died following a domestic dispute in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, in an incident now classified as murder.

According to a police report filed at Ongata Rongai Police Station (OB 90/29/4/2026) and seen by Y News, the incident occurred on April 29, 2026, at around 9:50pm at Ruth’s Apartments along Honeypot Road.

Police identified the deceased as Mungai Gathogo, 53, a chef attached to the Parliamentary Service Commission, working within the parliamentary catering department.

Detectives said he had arrived home from work accompanied by his girlfriend, Catherine Muthoki, 31.

The caretaker reported that shortly after entering the house, the two engaged in a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Investigators say the woman later left the premises before returning with a friend, Everline Ngina, who found the victim lying unconscious on the bedroom floor.

He was in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife lodged in his left arm near the chest.

Officers from Ongata Rongai Police Station and DCI responded to the scene and rushed him to Ongata Rongai Sub-County Hospital before he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has been moved to the hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police have arrested Muthoki, who remains in custody as investigations continue.

The kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, has been recovered as an exhibit.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Ongata Rongai is handling the case.
