Stay Away From Political Meetings You Don’t Support, PS Omollo Tells Kenyans

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has urged Kenyans to avoid political meetings organised by leaders they do not support, warning that political differences should not escalate into violence or loss of life.

Speaking on Sunday, September 13, Omollo called on Kenyans to exercise restraint as the country moves towards the 2027 General Election and the campaign period begins to take shape.

He said people who disagree with a particular politician should simply avoid attending that leader’s political gatherings rather than confronting supporters.

“As we head towards the election campaign season, if you do not support a particular politician, simply stay away from their meeting,” Omollo said.

Omollo warns against violence at political gatherings

The Interior PS said political disagreements should never become a reason for Kenyans to attack one another or engage in violent confrontations.

He urged citizens to reject violence as a means of advancing political interests, saying political competition should not come at the cost of human life.

“No Kenyan should lose their life because of politics and we must reject any actor using violence to transact their politics,” he added.

His remarks come as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 General Election, with politicians holding rallies and meetings as they build support and strengthen their political networks.

Call for restraint ahead of 2027

Omollo’s appeal places emphasis on individual responsibility in preventing confrontations at political events.

His advice that people who do not support a particular politician should stay away from their meetings is aimed at reducing the likelihood of clashes between rival political groups.

The PS also warned against political actors using violence to advance their interests, signalling the government’s concern over the potential for political disagreements to spill into physical confrontations.
