NYERI, Kenya – Democratic For Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is a man over the moon after claiming that Kenyans of goodwill were already contributing towards his political course.
While appearing on the Obinna Live Show on the evening of Friday, May 16, 2025, at his Wamunyoro home, the former DP revealed that as of last week, his supporters had already contributed Sh100 million
“Already, there are a few things that we are doing as a party. People have contributed large sums of money. As of last week, we were at Sh100 million. And this was before the party was unveiled later this week,” said Gachagua.
Why Rigathi Gachagua needs money for his DCP party
Gachagua further disclosed that his party will be rolling out its pay bill number and bank accounts for both the dollar account (for the people in the diaspora) and the Kenya Shillings account.
“We are asking people who want to support this party, those who believe in liberating this country and want to be part of this process, to also put some money in it, depending on their ability, because no money is small,” said the former deputy president.
The former DP said that as a party, they need money to do their forthcoming launch at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
“We also need to buy vehicles and open office branches. We need to buy materials and print t-shirts. As we speak, everyone wants our caps and t-shirts,” said Gachagua, maintaining that the party will be run by members.
“DCP is a public body; it is not my thing. It is also not a family business. The people of Kenya who want to be associated with us will come through,” said Gachagua.
How DCP supporters are supporting Rigathi Gachagua
He also took the opportunity to thank those who have so far contributed some money to his political outfit.
“People have paid for our office rent and bought us furniture, laptops, desktop computers, fridges, gas cookers, and lawn mowers. We now have four Toyota Prados. Others have given us sound systems. I am overwhelmed by the support coming from people who want to be associated with this party, meaning that we are going to grow rapidly,” explained Gachagua.
Against this background, Gachagua assured DCP members that as their party leader, he won’t let them down.
“DCP is a people’s party. I am not going to fund this party. One, I don’t have that kind of resource. And even if I had, it is a people’s party and not my party. This party will be run by members,” added the former deputy president.
