NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto has congratulated Samuel Muchina Nyagah after he emerged victorious in the United Democratic Alliance nominations for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election slated for July 16.
In a message shared after the hotly contested primaries, Ruto praised Nyagah for securing the party ticket and also commended the other aspirants who participated in the race.
“Congratulations, Samuel Muchina Nyagah, on your nomination to carry the UDA flag in the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election slated for July 16, 2026,” Ruto said.
The President also recognised the nine other aspirants who competed in the nominations, saying their participation reflected the party’s democratic spirit and unity.
“We also salute the other nine aspirants who sought the opportunity to fly our party’s flag in the polls. Your participation is a strong affirmation of the vibrant democracy and unity that define our party,” he stated.
Nyagah won the tightly contested nomination after garnering 3,221 votes, narrowly beating George Wambugu Kanuri, who secured 3,077 votes.
The nomination exercise attracted ten aspirants and has been viewed as a key political test in Nyandarua County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyagah, who previously served as a longtime personal assistant to the late former Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, received his nomination certificate after the results were announced at Mumbi Primary School in Ol Kalou.
The by-election was triggered by Kiaraho’s death, setting the stage for an intense political contest in the constituency.
UDA officials described the nominations as free and transparent, with the party’s Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee remaining on standby to handle any complaints arising from the exercise.
