NAIROBI, Kenya — President William Ruto and South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit have pledged to deepen relations between Kenya and South Sudan, with a focus on expanding trade and investment opportunities for citizens of both countries.
Ruto hosted Kiir at State House, Nairobi, where the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the existing ties between the neighbouring countries.
According to Ruto, the two countries agreed to continue opening up opportunities for trade and investment as part of efforts to strengthen regional economic cooperation.
Ruto Thanks Kiir For Refinery Launch Support
Ruto also thanked Kiir for South Sudan’s participation in last week’s launch of the Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu.
The President said South Sudan’s participation reflected the growing economic cooperation between the two countries and the wider region.
The refinery project is expected to strengthen regional economic ties by creating opportunities for investment and trade.

Kenya Offers Support Ahead Of South Sudan Polls
The meeting also focused on South Sudan’s planned General Election in December 2026.
Ruto commended South Sudan for preparing for the election and said Kenya was ready to support the country during the electoral process.
He also encouraged dialogue and consensus among South Sudan’s political parties ahead of the polls.
The December election is expected to be an important milestone for South Sudan as the country continues its political transition.
Ruto said Kenya stands ready to support efforts aimed at ensuring the electoral process is conducted through dialogue and consensus.
