NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and several Cabinet Secretaries have appointed and reappointed officials to key government boards and institutions, according to Gazette Notices dated August 28, 2026.
The appointments affect institutions responsible for military veterans, social protection, scientific research, healthcare training, education, media and communications, as well as several county and regulatory bodies.
Ruto appoints chairs for veterans and social protection boards
President William Ruto appointed Maj. Gen. (Rtd) William Karisa Shume as the non-executive chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans.
Shume will serve a four-year term beginning August 28, 2026, under the Military Veterans Act.
The committee is responsible for advising on matters affecting military veterans, making its leadership important to government policies and programmes targeting former members of Kenya’s defence forces.
Ruto also appointed Cecilia Mbaka as the non-executive chairperson of the National Board for Social Protection.
Mbaka will serve a three-year term from August 28 under the Social Protection Act.
Mudavadi makes science and research appointments
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi made several appointments to Kenya’s science and research institutions.
Mudavadi appointed Dr Thomas Kiprono Serem as the non-executive chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Research Fund (NRF) for a three-year term.
He also appointed Wakiuru Njuguna, Dr Fidelis Mwaka Muia, Dr Samuel Tiriongo and Prof. Jane Catherina Ngila as members of the National Research Fund Board of Trustees.
At the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), Mudavadi appointed Davidson M. Mwaisaka, Dr Michael N. Walekhwa and Joel Onditi as board members.
The appointments are expected to strengthen governance within institutions responsible for funding, coordinating and promoting scientific research and innovation in Kenya.
Duale reappoints KMTC board members
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Bare Duale reappointed four members of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board.
They are Paul Kaino Cheboi, Eunice Wangui Karanja, Hardlyne Lusui and Eng. Joseph Ouma Atonga.
The four officials will serve another three-year term beginning August 28, 2026.
The KMTC Board plays a key role in overseeing the institution, which trains healthcare professionals for Kenya’s health system.
Kabogo reshuffles media and communications boards
Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo Gitau also made appointments within the communications and media sector.
Ndungu Guchu, Jimmy Munyao Mauta and Dinah Samikwo were reappointed as members of the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board for three years beginning September 1, 2026.
Kabogo also appointed Mashati Meitamei as a member of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Council for a three-year term beginning August 28.
Ogamba appoints education sector officials
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba appointed Abdi Mouild Abdi as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) Council.
Abdi will serve a three-year term beginning August 28, 2026.
Ogamba also appointed Daniel Njiru Mugendi and Fred Simiyu Barasa as members of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Placement Board for three years.
The appointments come as government institutions continue to strengthen leadership and oversight across the education sector.
Turkana County appoints disability fund chair
The Gazette notices also included appointments at the county level.
Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Napotikan appointed Lucas Lokusi Ekadeli as chairperson of the Turkana County Persons with Disabilities Fund Board.
Ekadeli will serve a four-year term.
At the Laikipia County Assembly, Moses Gichuki Waweru was appointed acting Deputy Clerk, taking on the duties of the Clerk and Secretary following the departure of the previous office holder.
Anti-Counterfeit Authority appoints 13 inspectors
The Anti-Counterfeit Authority appointed 13 inspectors to enforce provisions of the Anti-Counterfeit Act.
The appointed inspectors are Lindsay Kipkemoi, Tom Maurice Muteti, Norman Pkiror Lotunale, Wilson Kuteli, Tony Mutemi Musyoka, Mercy Nyambura Mwangi, Erick Maregwa Wawira, Steve Kemeli, John Mwanza, Evans Kipchumba, Rehab Wanja Mukenye, Sarah Chelimo and Henry Pkania Kiboi.
Their appointment gives the authority additional personnel to support enforcement and investigations relating to counterfeit goods.
Judiciary appoints 141 Commissioners for Oaths
The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Winfridah B. Mokaya, also appointed 141 advocates as Commissioners for Oaths.
The appointments form part of a wider series of official changes published in the August 28 Gazette Notices.
