NAIVASHA, Kenya – Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has celebrated the marriage of her eldest son, Ian Njuguna Waiguru, to Joanne Rodriguez, sharing an emotional message after the couple exchanged vows in a star-studded wedding ceremony.
Ian and Joanne got married on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Naivasha, bringing together family, friends and several prominent guests for the colourful ceremony.
Among those who attended the wedding was President William Ruto, who joined the Waiguru family in celebrating the couple as they began their married life.
Following the ceremony, Waiguru took to social media to share a heartfelt message congratulating her son and daughter-in-law.
“My heart is full,” the governor wrote.
She continued: “Congratulations Joanne and Ian on your wedding! Wishing you a lifetime of love, laughter, and endless happiness together. ❤️ Mum.”

Ian and Joanne’s wedding took place at an outdoor garden setting in Naivasha. The ceremony featured an elegant colour scheme, with the bridal party incorporating maroon, burgundy and jungle green into their outfits. Joanne wore a white, off-shoulder wedding gown for the ceremony, while Ian opted for a sleek off-white tuxedo.
The couple were surrounded by family and friends as they celebrated their union. The wedding also attracted attention because of its high-profile guest list, with President Ruto among the dignitaries who attended. Ruto congratulated the newlyweds and shared a message about the values he hoped would guide their marriage.
“As you walk this journey together, stand by each other, listen with patience, forgive generously and never stop choosing one another.,” he shared.

The President encouraged Ian and Joanne to build a strong relationship founded on friendship, patience and companionship as they navigate married life together.
“May you build a strong and happy home, grow together through every season of life, and find in each other enduring friendship, strength and companionship,” he said.
The governor has previously shared moments from her children’s milestones, including celebrations connected to her sons’ relationships and traditional marriage ceremonies.
Ian’s wedding to Joanne followed several events that paved the way for the couple’s union. The couple reportedly got engaged in January 2026, setting the stage for their journey towards marriage.
They later held traditional marriage celebrations before their white wedding in Naivasha. The traditional ceremonies brought together members of the two families and marked another significant step towards the couple’s formal union.
Ian Njuguna Waiguru is a technology entrepreneur and the eldest son of Governor Anne Waiguru. He is known for his work in Kenya’s technology and fintech sector and serves as co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Fingo Africa, a digital banking startup targeting young consumers.
He attended Brookhouse International School before pursuing higher education at the University of Salford in England. Through his work at Fingo Africa, Ian has been involved in developing digital financial services aimed at making banking more accessible to younger users.
