NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto has nominated former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion and Antonina Lentoijoni to serve as commissioners at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The nominations, announced on Tuesday, have been submitted to Parliament for vetting and approval as required under the Constitution and other applicable laws.

In a statement, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the appointments are meant to fill vacancies in constitutional commissions and statutory bodies.

“The following Presidential nominations have been transmitted to Parliament for consideration and approval in accordance with the Constitution and the relevant statutes,” the statement said.

If approved by the National Assembly, Sossion and Lentoijoni will join the nine-member TSC, the constitutional commission responsible for registering teachers, recruiting and employing educators in public schools, deploying them to institutions and handling disciplinary matters within the teaching profession.

Sossion previously led KNUT as secretary general before later serving as a nominated Member of Parliament. Lentoijoni has also been nominated to join the commission as a new member.

President Ruto also nominated Flora Mutua to the Public Service Commission (PSC), the body tasked with creating and abolishing offices in the public service, appointing public officers and promoting the values and principles of public administration.

The nominations are part of the government’s efforts to fill vacancies in independent constitutional commissions and statutory bodies to ensure they continue to operate effectively.

The nominees will now undergo parliamentary vetting before the National Assembly debates and votes on their appointments.
