Nairobi, Kenya – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured parents and education stakeholders that the country is fully prepared for the transition of Grade 10 learners to senior school, with teachers trained and equipped to support the rollout of Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
Speaking on the preparedness of the education sector, TSC Chief Executive Officer Eveleen Mitei confirmed that all teachers expected to receive the first cohort of Grade 10 learners are ready to implement the senior school curriculum.
“The Commission assures parents that all teachers are prepared to receive Grade 10 candidates. They are adequately equipped with the competencies, skills, and confidence required to meet the diverse learning mix of our learners under the competency-based framework,” Mitei said.
She added that the transition, starting Monday, January 12, 2026, will provide learners with a learning environment designed to nurture their talents, interests, and career pathways.
Heads of senior school institutions have been urged to broaden curriculum offerings to accommodate the varied subject combinations envisioned under the CBE system.
Mitei also highlighted ongoing interventions to address teacher shortages in newly introduced learning areas.
“We are committed to strengthening staffing levels and building capacity in specialised subjects to ensure smooth delivery of the senior school curriculum,” she said.
The TSC CEO further commended teachers for their role in administering the 2025 national examinations, which saw 77,600 teachers deployed as centre managers, supervisors, and invigilators.
She attributed the smooth conduct of the exams to strong leadership and multi-agency collaboration, including education officials and security agencies.
Mitei emphasised that teachers remain central to the success of both examination processes and the implementation of the senior school curriculum, urging them to maintain professionalism as the sector navigates this critical phase of the CBE rollout.
The Grade 10 transition is a pivotal step in Kenya’s Competency-Based Education system, which aims to align learning with practical skills development and real-world applications.
