Wetang’ula, Kingi Lead MPs to Visit Recuperating Oburu Oginga

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi have led a delegation of Members of Parliament from both Houses to visit ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi residence, where he is recuperating following an illness.

Speaker Wetang’ula said the legislators were encouraged by Oburu’s recovery since he was discharged from hospital and wished him continued strength as he takes time away from active political engagements.

“We were pleased and encouraged by his remarkable recovery since his discharge from hospital,” Wetang’ula said after the visit.

The Speaker said the ODM leader was in high spirits and retained the jovial personality for which he is widely known.

‘He remains in high spirits’

According to Wetang’ula, Oburu entertained the visiting lawmakers with jokes and humour, despite acknowledging that his illness had temporarily slowed down his political activities.

The Speaker said Oburu expressed confidence that he would soon return to active duty after fully recovering.

Wetang’ula urged the Siaya Senator to place his health first and allow himself adequate time to recover before resuming his political schedule.

“I encouraged him to put his health first and allow himself enough time to recover fully before resuming his political engagements,” Wetang’ula said.

He also commended Oburu’s resilience and positive spirit, describing him as a key figure in Parliament and Kenya’s political landscape.

Parliamentary goodwill

The visit brought together legislators from the National Assembly and Senate in a show of goodwill towards the ODM leader, who has remained at home since his discharge from hospital.

Wetang’ula thanked the lawmakers who joined the delegation, saying their presence demonstrated the regard in which Oburu is held across the political divide.

“Hon. Oburu remains a valuable pillar in Parliament and an important figure in Kenya’s political landscape,” he said.

Oburu, 83, is the Siaya Senator and ODM Party Leader.

His health has attracted public attention in recent weeks, particularly as ODM navigates key political decisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Oburu has received several political leaders and family members at his Nairobi residence since leaving hospital, offering supporters visible signs of his recovery.
