NAIROBI, Kenya — Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has warned that President William Ruto could face a revolution if he secures re-election in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a local media interview on Monday, August 24, Amisi said Ruto should not seek or secure a second term, arguing that young Kenyans who he claims have been frustrated by the administration would continue demanding political change.
“Don’t even talk about President Ruto being re-elected. If it happens, he might be removed by a revolution because the young and restless generation he has frustrated are still here. It is best he goes now,” Amisi said.
The Saboti MP has been among the politicians calling for Ruto to serve only one term and leave office after the 2027 election.
Amisi shifts focus to People’s Movement
Amisi has distanced himself from the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying the political outfit has moved away from what he described as its original objectives.
He said he now intends to use his People’s Movement (PM) to push for the election of what he termed credible leaders to Parliament.
According to Amisi, electing more opposition-aligned MPs and senators would create a stronger parliamentary platform capable of challenging Ruto if he wins a second term.
He said the strategy would include supporting lawmakers who could initiate constitutional mechanisms against the President should the opposition fail to defeat him at the ballot.
Amisi further said that if Ruto survives the 2027 election, he would work to ensure that the President is removed shortly after returning to office.
MP calls for opposition presidential nominations
The Saboti legislator also called for the United Opposition to select its presidential candidate through competitive nominations rather than negotiations among political leaders.
He argued that a decision made through what he described as boardroom negotiations could weaken the opposition’s chances and ultimately hand Ruto another term.
His comments come as opposition leaders and political formations intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election.
Several opposition figures have been positioning themselves for the presidential contest, while discussions continue over whether the various parties and movements can agree on a single candidate capable of mounting a strong challenge against Ruto.
Political competition intensifies ahead of 2027
Amisi’s remarks add to increasingly sharp rhetoric surrounding the next election, with politicians on both sides debating the future of the Ruto administration and the shape of the opposition coalition.
The MP has consistently advocated for a one-term presidency for Ruto and has urged opposition leaders to focus on building a strong electoral alternative.
With the 2027 election approaching, the opposition faces the twin challenge of agreeing on a credible flag bearer and building a coordinated national campaign, while the Kenya Kwanza administration continues to defend its record and seek re-election.
