EACC Arrests Turkana Nurse, Business Partner Over Sh2.76 Million ‘Contract Scandal’

Date:

ELDORET, Kenya – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Turkana County government nurse and his business partner over an alleged conflict of interest involving county contracts worth Sh2.76 million.

The suspects, Gilbert Suleiman Eskuku, a registered nurse employed by the County Government of Turkana, and Abass Abdi Yusuf, his co-director at Ekwang Suppliers Company Limited, are accused of benefiting from contracts awarded to the company between 2017 and 2021.

In a statement, the EACC said its investigations established that Eskuku allegedly used his position as a county employee and his directorship in the company to secure contracts and receive payments from the county government.

The payments under investigation total Sh2,763,681.

EACC Alleges Cash Withdrawals Were Used To Conceal Payments

The commission further alleged that Eskuku immediately withdrew the payments in cash in an attempt to conceal the source of the funds.

According to the EACC, investigations were completed and the inquiry file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved the prosecution of the two suspects and Ekwang Suppliers Company Limited.

The suspects are expected to face charges including conflict of interest, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Suspects To Face Anti-Corruption Court

The two men are being processed at the EACC North Rift Regional Office in Eldoret ahead of their planned arraignment before the Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The commission said it would also institute civil proceedings to recover the public funds and seek the forfeiture of assets established to have been acquired using proceeds of crime.

EACC Warns Public Entities On Conflict Of Interest

The commission has urged state organs and public entities to strengthen compliance with the Conflict of Interest Act, 2025.

It called for effective measures to ensure public officers declare, manage and prevent conflicts of interest in the execution of their official duties.

The case highlights the commission’s ongoing efforts to investigate alleged misuse of public resources and pursue accountability where public officials are suspected of using their positions for private business interests.
