Two Foreign Nationals Found Dead In Kilimani Apartment As Police Probe Suspected Suicide

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Two foreign nationals, a Chinese man and a Vietnamese woman, have been found dead with suspected gunshot wounds inside an apartment along Chania Avenue in Kilimani, Nairobi, as police investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deceased were identified as Xu Zhiyu, a Chinese national, and Nguyen Hong Ngoc, a Vietnamese national. Their bodies were discovered on Tuesday morning after apartment management reported hearing gunshots from house A506 at around 10 a.m.

Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said investigators recovered a handwritten note suspected to be a suicide note from the apartment. The note is undergoing analysis as detectives seek to establish what led to the deaths.

Police suspect the incident may have involved one person shooting the other before turning the firearm on himself. However, investigators have not conclusively established the sequence of events.

Gunshots Prompted Apartment Management To Alert Police

According to police, the apartment manager reported hearing gunshots from the unit at around 10 a.m.

The door was reportedly locked from the inside, preventing immediate access. Police were called to the scene, and apartment management later opened the unit using a spare key.

Officers found the two bodies seated side by side on a mattress in the sitting room, both with suspected gunshot wounds to the head.

The circumstances leading to the deaths remain unclear, with investigators examining the recovered evidence and the note found inside the apartment.

“We do not know what transpired leading to the incident, but experts are working on the issue,” Mohamud said.

Pistol And Ammunition Recovered At Scene

Crime Scene Investigation officers from the Nairobi Region processed the apartment and collected evidence for forensic examination.

Police recovered a BUL 9mm pistol, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, two spent 9mm cartridges and the handwritten note suspected to be a suicide note.

The bodies were subsequently moved to Chiromo Funeral Parlour, where they await postmortem examinations.

Detectives are investigating the possible motive, the ownership of the firearm and the events that preceded the deaths.

Police have not disclosed further details about the activities of the two foreign nationals or their circumstances before the incident.

Investigations Continue As Police Await Postmortems

Investigators are treating a possible suicide pact as one line of inquiry, but the precise circumstances of the deaths have not been confirmed.

The postmortem examinations and forensic analysis are expected to help establish further details about the deaths.

Police have urged caution as investigations continue, with the recovered firearm, spent cartridges and handwritten note forming part of the evidence being examined.

The incident adds to concerns about suicide in Kenya, where authorities and health professionals continue to emphasise the need for early intervention and access to mental health support.
