NAIROBI, Kenya – Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kariokor Market shoe trader Paul Mwangangi along Landhies Road in Nairobi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Mwangangi was reportedly stabbed on October 12, 2026, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge.
Officers who responded to the scene found the trader lying face down with a fresh stab wound to the chest.
Crime Scene Investigation detectives documented and processed the scene to preserve evidence, while the body was taken to City Mortuary pending an autopsy.
Suspects Traced To Kayole Hideout
In a follow-up operation, detectives from DCI Central and Kamukunji, working with officers from the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, used intelligence leads to track down the suspects.
The two were arrested at a hideout in Kayole and identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu, alias Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, alias Denoo.
They were taken to Kamukunji Police Station, where they remain in custody as investigations continue ahead of their expected arraignment.
Bloodstained Sword Recovered
Detectives also recovered a Maasai sword bearing bloodstains, which investigators suspect may have been used in the killing.
The weapon has been secured as an exhibit for forensic examination as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding Mwangangi’s death.
The DCI extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues, saying it remained committed to pursuing all leads and bringing those responsible to justice in accordance with the law.
The suspects have not been convicted, and investigations are ongoing.
