Ongoing Go-Slow at JKIA Delays Morning Flights

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- NAIROBI, Kenya- Operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have been disrupted by an ongoing go-slow, with passengers reporting delays to flights that were scheduled to depart from the airport this morning.

Some travellers say flights that were scheduled to leave at around 8am remained on the ground several hours later, leaving passengers waiting for updates on when they would be allowed to depart.

Live flight-tracking data for JKIA shows that several morning departures have been delayed.

For example, flight KQ602, scheduled to leave Nairobi for Mombasa at 8am, was still showing a delay, while other morning flights also recorded changes to their scheduled departure times.

The disruption is affecting both domestic and international operations, with passengers at the airport sharing updates about prolonged waiting times and uncertainty over departure schedules.

The latest disruption comes against the backdrop of previous industrial action by aviation workers over employment and working-condition grievances.

Earlier this year, a go-slow by aviation workers led to significant delays and cancellations at JKIA, prompting airlines to warn passengers to confirm their flight status before travelling.

JKIA has also experienced congestion in recent weeks, with the Government acknowledging pressure on airport facilities during peak periods as rehabilitation works continue at some terminals.

This is a developing story.
