NAKURU, Kenya – A fuel tanker exploded shortly after midnight at Sachangwan along the Salgaa-Nakuru stretch of the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, the Kenya Red Cross has reported.
The explosion prompted a multi-agency emergency response, with the Red Cross saying its team attended to two casualties at the scene.
“A multi-agency team had contained the fire following the explosion,” the organisation said in a statement.
Highway Closed At Kibunja And Soilo
The incident resulted in the closure of the highway at the Kibunja and Soilo interchanges as emergency teams responded to the situation.
The Kenya Red Cross urged motorists using the busy highway to seek alternative routes while the response operation continued.
The closure is expected to affect traffic along the major route connecting Nakuru and Eldoret.

The cause of the tanker explosion was not immediately established.
