The announcement, made by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, marks a notable reshuffle as Ruto brings former political heavyweights back into key roles.
If approved, Kinyanjui will replace Salim Mvurya at the helm of the Trade docket, tasked with steering investments and bolstering Kenya’s trade agenda amid growing economic challenges.
Kinyanjui, a seasoned public servant, boasts a diverse political and administrative career.
Between 2008 and 2013, he served as Assistant Minister for Roads under the grand coalition government.
He later became the founding chairperson of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), where he spearheaded road safety reforms.
His political journey includes a mixed history in Nakuru County.
After an unsuccessful gubernatorial bid in 2013, Kinyanjui staged a political comeback in 2017, defeating then-Governor Kinuthia Mbugua in the Jubilee Party primaries.
He went on to win the general election, becoming Nakuru’s second governor.
