KERICHO, Kenya- Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno was taken to hospital after a Kenya Forest Service helicopter crashed during take-off at Kericho Golf Club on Monday.
Ng’eno was among five people aboard the aircraft.
All five survived, though some were injured and needed medical attention.
No further details about Ng’eno’s condition were immediately available.
The cause of the crash has not been established.
Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the attempted take-off.
The Kericho incident comes less than two months after a tourist helicopter crashed at Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County on August 19, killing all seven people on board.
The victims included five U.S. citizens, Ecuadorian intelligence chief Michele Sensi-Contugi and Kenyan pilot Josh Outram. Sensi-Contugi’s wife, Stephany Hollihan, was among the U.S. citizens killed.
The aircraft, operated by Lady Lori Limited, had been carrying tourists; Kenya’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Department says its investigation is continuing.
In February, another fatal helicopter crash in Nandi County killed 6 people including Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno and a Kenya Forest Service ranger.
