Gun Stolen During Raila Odinga’s Burial Recovered in Kisumu Hideout

Date:

KISUMU, Kenya – Police in Kisumu East have arrested four suspects and recovered a firearm believed to have been stolen from a police officer during the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last Sunday in Bondo, Siaya County.

According to detectives, the men were arrested on Saturday afternoon at a hideout in the Mbeme area following a tip-off from members of the public.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Kasagam Police Station raided the premises and recovered the firearm during the operation.

Police said the recovered weapon — a loaded Jericho pistol — was allegedly snatched from Police Constable Benson Kodia, who is attached to the Kakamega Governor’s security detail.

The incident reportedly occurred as the officer escorted the governor to his vehicle during the high-profile funeral service.

The suspects are currently in custody and are being interrogated at Kasagam Police Station as investigations continue. They are expected to be arraigned once police complete their probe.

The recovery comes amid heightened security operations across Siaya and Kisumu counties following isolated incidents of disorder reported during Odinga’s burial.
