NAIROBI, Kenya – Planning to work from home this Wednesday? You might want to have a backup plan. Kenya Power has announced scheduled power outages across nine counties on May 21, 2025, citing routine maintenance as the reason for the blackout.
The outages, set to occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., will roll out at different times depending on your location. So if you live in or around Nairobi, Bomet, Embu, Kakamega, Kiambu, Migori, Nakuru, Nyeri, or Uasin Gishu, read on—your area could be on the list.
Nairobi County
In Nairobi, expect power cuts between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in parts of Parklands such as Muthithi Road, Ojijo Road, Parkland Road, Mpesi Road, and Mogotio Road. Other affected areas include parts of Juja Road, the Moi Airbase vicinity, and nearby landmarks like St. Teresa School, Total, OLA, and Shell petrol stations, along with sections of Mlango Kubwa.
Nakuru County
If you’re in Nakuru, power will be off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Meadows, Free Area, Kwa Murogi, Baharini Nawassco Boreholes, Naka, Happy Cow, Section 58, Dog Secondary, Kabachia, Kisulisuli, YMCA, Ebony, Jamhuri, and the Menengai and Lions schools.
Bomet County
In Bomet, electricity will be interrupted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Abosi, Olchobosei, Njipiship, Ndamama, Tagitech, Rongai, Emurua Dikkir, Murkan Market, Kurangurik Market, Mogondo Market, and surrounding areas.
Uasin Gishu County
Power outages in Uasin Gishu are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., affecting Kitingia, Cherus, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Kapsundei, Sengalo, Chereber, Kapchorwa, Ndanai, Ngarua, Kondoo, Kapkeno, Languse, Kaptega Cheboror, and nearby homes and businesses.
Kakamega County
In Kakamega, power will be out from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Samitsi, Khalenda, Malava, Malanga, Malichi, Kimangeti, Tumbeni, Kakoi, Kambi Mwanza, Shamberere, and the area around West Kenya Sugar Factory. Additional areas affected include Ingavira, Kambiri, Ileho, KMTC Kakamega, Ebwabwa, Shinyalu, Emusala, Emukaba, Lubao Market, and Bukhaywa.
Migori County
Migori residents will face outages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Migori Town, Shell and Total petrol stations, Migori TTC, Jua Kali Migori, ABS Bank, Life Care Hospital, Nyikendo, Magina Boosters, Migori Hospital, Oruba, Wouth Ogik, Bansi Mega, and Banana Onding Mon. Additional blackouts will hit Seka, Oriang, Duga, Pala, Kendubay, Kamondia, Nyakwere, Rakwaro, Osodo, Kobala, Makaka, Kogweno, Oneno Nam, Nyangwete, Arosi, Pala Prisons, Oyuma, Nyakongo, Adiedo, and Omboga.
Nyeri County
Power interruptions in Nyeri will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., affecting Muthinga Market, Gichira, Kiangacha, Kangaita, Gondo, Kiriko, Kanderendu, and Eucabet.
Embu County
In Embu, scheduled blackouts between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. will affect Manyatta, Kavutiri, Mungania, Kamugere, Kathande, Rutune, Kiriari, Mbuvori, and Kianjokoma Karuriri.
Kiambu County
Residents of Kiambu should prepare for power cuts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Mukuyuini, Juja Farm Athi, Kwa Murage, Kwa Ruhi, Komo Market, Fara Inya, Munyu Girls, Githima Shopping Centre, and Magana Primary School.
