ODM’s Oburu Oginga Urges Leaders to Shun Self-Interest

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kisumu Senator Oburu Oginga has urged leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to embrace unity and put aside personal interests, warning that the party’s strength lies in its ability to remain cohesive.

In a reflective Sunday message, the ODM leader said the party’s diversity has always been its greatest asset, but only if members choose to work together despite differences.

“Our strength has always been our diversity, but that strength is only realised when we embrace each other,” he said.

Call for unity and shared purpose

Oginga called on fellow leaders to rise above internal divisions and focus on building a stable and prosperous party.

He emphasised that disagreements on policy should not overshadow a shared purpose, urging members to prioritise the collective good over individual ambitions.

“The season calls for us to rise above personal interests. We must forge a unity of purpose that puts our people at the centre of every decision,” he said.

Focus on stability ahead of political season

The remarks come at a time when political activity is gradually intensifying across the country, with parties positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Oginga stressed that maintaining peace, mutual respect and cohesion within ODM will be critical in shaping its future and strengthening its role in national politics.

Framing his message as a moment of reflection, he urged leaders to build bridges rather than deepen divisions, calling for wisdom and restraint in leadership.

“I pray and urge my colleagues to prioritise the common good over individual gain, ensuring that peace and mutual respect define our path forward,” he said.

He concluded by wishing Kenyans a peaceful and reflective Sunday, reiterating the need for unity both within the party and across the country.
