BUNGOMA, Kenya – Governor Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma has urged women’s organisations in the county to make sure that their efforts to empower women result in real financial benefits.
Speaking at a fundraising event for many women’s organisations at Kamukuywa AC Primary School, Lusaka, promised to continue supporting women-led projects but tasked the organisations with making prudent investments and turning a return from the funding they get.
“I will not shy away from raising funds to empower our women, but I urge them to put the money to good use and grow it,” the governor stated.
Women’s empowerment programs in Bungoma include initiatives by organisations like the Bungoma Big Sisters Self-Help Group, which focuses on creating safer communities. Additionally, programs are providing low-interest loans to youth, which can indirectly support women’s economic empowerment.

There are also scheduled events like the Women’s Empowerment Programme. These initiatives suggest a focus on financial support, community safety, and capacity building for women in the region.
Lusaka also took a swipe at critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s empowerment drive, urging them to set aside political differences and contribute to the development of the community.
“Why are they feeling bad when we help women with our little savings? They should join us so we can build our society together,” Lusaka remarked.
Women’s organisations received KSh 6.2 million at the well-attended event, which was made possible by donations from a number of well-known leaders. President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, was one of the important people who attended the event.
How the Kenya Kwanza government is empowering communities
Others were among them; MPs Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Kimani Ichung’wah, the majority leader of the National Assembly, Mwingi Mutuse (Kibwezi), Nabii Nabwera (Lugari), John Makali (Kanduyi), John Bwire (Kwale), and Mugabe Innocent (Likuyani) were among the other contributions.
The program is a component of the Kenya Kwanza brigade’s larger endeavour to increase economic empowerment at the grassroots level, especially for women, throughout the nation.
Speaking at the same time, MP Barasa said the engagement forms part of the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration’s comprehensive and inclusive development agenda, anchored on equity, economic revitalisation, and transformative leadership.
“We are placing women at the core of policy influence, enterprise development, and social change. Leadership is not measured by rhetoric but by tangible impact. Today, we reaffirmed our vision for a Bungoma that is not only empowered but also future-ready,” said the host MP.
